Mike Varney is a 1972 graduate of Marshfield Columbus High School.  After obtaining a bachelor’s in Communication at UW-Stevens Point, he furthered his education with graduate degrees from Mount Mary College and Vanderbilt University. Varney retired from the Air Force as Lieutenant Colonel after 24 years of active duty. Locating his 1992 recorded interviews with Coach Kroll sparked this book. He continues to hone his writing skills every year at the University of Iowa’s Summer Writing Festival.
